The international Master's programme in Criminology, Governance and Police Science is offered by the Ruhr-University Bochum (Law Faculty), Germany, in cooperation with the University College Ghent (GaPS), Belgium, with financial support by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The international Master’s programme is organised as a distance learning course using modern multi-media tools for reliable communication and exchange among participants and teachers, providing sufficient opportunity to meet with and talk to teachers and co-students personally and to communicate directly throughout the entire course. The distance learning design of the course suits in particular (but not only) professionals who are interested in advanced education in the respective scientific fields.

The Master's programme focuses on the increasing needs for criminological, governance and police science knowledge

  • for peace-making and peace-keeping efforts in post-conflict and transitional countries,
  • for establishing rule of law, human rights standards and sustainable security in these countries,
  • for capacity building in the law enforcement (in particular police) and criminal justice sector,
  • for development of personal skills of professionals working within the field of security and justice,
  • for supporting NGOs and civil society in their functions to monitor and evaluate democratic police work and criminal  justice based on human rights standards.

This new and innovative 2-year International Master’s course in English language offers an excellent opportunity for advanced education and life-long learning in the fields of Criminology, Governance and Police Science. The format of  Blended Learning allows global participation by combining distance learning and online lectures with periods of lectures and seminars at the University of Bochum, Germany, and the University College of Ghent, Belgium. After successful completion of the programme the degree “Master of Criminology, Governance and Police Science” will be obtained.
